Wiring Wizard & Port Calculator

Use our wiring assistant for easy speaker and subwoofer connections! The correct connection is important for your amplifier! Low-impedance operation can damage the amplifier! The datasheet shows you which connection each amplifier is designed for!

Our port calculator shows you the tuning characteristics of your enclosure! The net volume is always particularly important here; calculate the subwoofer’s actual resonant chamber volume beforehand to get the correct result. The net volume is calculated by subtracting all dead spaces and is crucial for enclosure design.

The
AMPIRE XSK50 is a high-quality 50-mm² power cable from the X-Link series and is ideal for high-performance car audio installations. The large conductor cross-section ensures a reliable power supply to power amplifiers and other high-current components.

The conductor consists of 1,470 finely twisted individual wires, which gives it good flexibility despite its large cross-section. It is made of soft-annealed electrolytic copper with a copper content of 99.9%. The low conductor resistance of just 0.39 ohms per kilometer supports low-loss energy transmission.

The insulation, which is both durable and flexible, has a matte, soft-touch finish and is oil-resistant. With a temperature range of -40 °C to +90 °C, the cable is designed to withstand the demanding conditions inside a vehicle.

The XSK50 is available in red (XSK50-RED) and black (XSK50-BLK) and is sold by us exclusively by the meter. This allows you to order the exact length of cable needed for your specific installation.

Frequently asked questions about the 50 mm² red and black electrical cable

What is the maximum current rating of the 50 mm² cable?

Depending on the method of installation and the ambient temperature, a 50 mm² copper cable can safely carry continuous currents of up to approximately 170–200 amps. Higher values are also possible with short cable lengths and good ventilation.

How do I bend the thick cable without damaging the insulation?

Despite its flexibility, you should ensure that the minimum bending radius is 8 times the cable diameter. In cold weather, allow the cable to reach room temperature first and then bend it slowly into the desired shape.

Which cable lugs are suitable for a 50 mm² cross-section?

For the 50 mm² cable, you will need special ring terminals or tubular terminals marked M8, M10 or M12, depending on the connection bolts. The terminals should always be crimped using hydraulic crimping pliers.

Can I also lay the red and black cable outdoors?

The PVC insulation is designed for use in sheltered indoor areas and engine compartments. For permanent outdoor installation, additional protection in the form of cable ducts or UV-resistant protective sleeves is recommended.

The PVC insulation is designed for use in sheltered indoor areas and engine compartments. For permanent outdoor installation, additional protection in the form of cable ducts or UV-resistant protective sleeves is recommended.

With a 12V on-board voltage and a power output of 2,000 watts, the total length (positive and negative cables) should not exceed 4–5 metres in order to keep voltage drops below 0.5V.

Is there a difference between the red and black cables?

Technically, both cables are constructed in the same way. The colour coding is intended solely to ensure that the positive (red) and negative (black) terminals can be reliably distinguished during installation.

How do I store unused cable properly?

Roll the cable loosely to a diameter of at least 40 cm and store it in a dry place at room temperature. Avoid sharp kinks and direct sunlight to protect the insulation.
