The term “clipping” refers to signal distortion. It occurs due to overdriving, when an amplifier is asked to deliver more power than it actually has. The signal peaks are then cut off, which is where the term clipping comes from. Besides the audible distortion, the speakers can be damaged, overheat, or even burn out.
