A capacitor, also known as a “power cap,” can store electrical charge and use it to quickly compensate for voltage fluctuations. For example, rapidly and sharply rising bass levels can be regulated with an appropriate extra burst of energy to “smooth out” the DC voltage, significantly reducing the strain on the amplifier by minimizing voltage dips.
