Sundown ZV6 18

The Sundown Audio ZV6 18 is an uncompromisingly designed 18-inch subwoofer for high-performance car audio systems that require massive low-frequency response, high cone excursion, and a correspondingly high power handling capacity. Within the Sundown portfolio, the Z v.6 series is positioned above the X v.3 series and combines a massive driver with a suspension system designed for exceptional linearity.

With a 3,250-watt RMS power handling capacity and a linear Xmax of 35 mm in one direction, the ZV6 18 offers considerable headroom for demanding bass setups. However, the design was not engineered solely for maximum volume. The linear suspension is designed to enable controlled cone movement and low distortion, particularly at very low frequencies.

At the heart of the ZV6 is its powerful magnet system combined with a 76.2 mm, 8-layer aluminum voice coil. Sundown relies on extensive ventilation of the motor: In addition to a flow-optimized pole-piece channel, the design features a highly ventilated air gap as well as additional integrated channels around the pole piece. This allows the heat generated during operation to be dissipated more efficiently from the area around the voice coil.

To achieve the large diaphragm excursion, Sundown’s Mega-Roll v.2 surround is used in conjunction with specially developed, ultra-linear centering spiders. A large aluminum Faraday ring also has a positive effect on the drive’s inductive behavior. Sewn XL tinsel strands and robust spring terminals are designed to handle the high currents and heavy mechanical loads typical of performance-oriented systems.

The ZV6 18 is specifically designed for bass-reflex enclosures. Sundown recommends a net volume of approximately 7.0 ft³ or 198 liters for the 18-inch speaker, tuned to 32 Hz. The manufacturer does not recommend a classic sealed enclosure.
