Both types have advantages depending on your needs. An active amplified subwoofer is easier to install, while a passive one offers more customization options within a subwoofer enclosure. 

If you are using a passive subwoofer, you can install it in the boot, behind the backrest or in the spare wheel well. There are also special under-seat subwoofers. Before buying, check where the model of your choice is to be installed and whether the dimensions fit.
