The Sundown Audio Z8 impressively demonstrates just how much power can be extracted from a compact 20-cm subwoofer. With a power handling capacity of a whopping 2,000 watts RMS, a linear cone excursion of 30 mm, and a motor design engineered for extreme loads, the Z8 is aimed at performance-oriented car audio and SPL systems where space is limited, but where no major compromises should be made when it comes to deep bass.

At the heart of the Z8 is a solid 70-mm aluminum voice coil with a four-layer round-wire winding. In combination with the highly ventilated magnetic gap, the optimized pole core ventilation, and a ventilated frame spacer ring made of cast aluminum, the heat generated during high-power operation is effectively dissipated.

The specially developed Mega-Roll v.2 surround enables an exceptionally large cone excursion for a 20-cm subwoofer. Ultra-linear spider assemblies maintain controlled movement of the driver even at high excursion, while sewn-on XL tinsel strands are designed to withstand high sustained mechanical stress. A large aluminum Faraday short-circuit ring further supports controlled driver behavior.

The Z8 is specifically designed for bass-reflex enclosures. Sundown Audio recommends a net volume of approximately 28.3 liters, tuned to 32 Hz. This makes the Z8 ideal for compact yet extremely powerful subwoofer systems.
