How do I connect the ESX DC1500 Power Cap correctly?

The ESX DC1500 is connected between the battery and the amplifier. The positive and negative cables are connected directly to the corresponding terminals on the integrated distribution block. It should be installed as close as possible to the amplifier, ideally with a cable length of no more than 50 cm.

When do I need a 1.5 farad buffer capacitor in my car?

A power cap such as the ESX DC1500 is useful for high-powered audio systems rated at around 1,000 watts RMS or more. It is particularly helpful with low-frequency bass beats, when spotlights flicker in time with the music or when amplifier output drops at high volumes.

What is the operating voltage rating of the capacitor?

The DC1500 is designed for the standard on-board voltage of 12–16 volts. The maximum operating voltage is 16 volts DC. Higher voltages may damage the capacitor.

How long does the charge last in the ESX Powercap?

Once the system has been switched off, the 1.5 farad capacitor discharges automatically within a few minutes. The stored energy is only available during operation for voltage stabilisation.

What is included in the Direction DC1500 Power Cap package?

The ESX DC1500 comes complete with an integrated distribution block, mounting bracket and fitting materials. A charging resistor for gentle initial charging is also included. Connection cables must be purchased separately.

Can I combine several capacitors?

Yes, in the case of very high-powered systems, several power capacitors can be connected in parallel. A capacitance of approximately 1 farad is recommended for every 1,000 watts of amplifier power. The capacitors should have the same capacitance values.

Where is the best place to fit the buffer capacitor?

The ideal location for installation is in the boot, near the power amplifier. The capacitor should be securely mounted and protected from moisture. Good ventilation prevents heat build-up under high load.

Typical signs include headlights flickering when the bass is loud, distortion at high volumes, or a drop in voltage on the voltmeter during powerful bass passages. In such cases, a capacitor can significantly improve performance.
