The AudioControl PNW-65CS2 is a high-quality 2-way component speaker system from the Pacific Northwest series, designed for demanding car audio installations. The set combines a 16.5-cm mid-woofer with a separate tweeter and a passive crossover, thereby enabling significantly better soundstage and tweeter positioning than traditional coaxial systems.

For the low-midrange driver, AudioControl relies on a rigid, poly-mica-coated diaphragm. It combines a low moving mass with high stability, thereby supporting controlled and detailed sound reproduction. A linear double-roll surround enables precise cone movement, while the edge-reinforced steel basket provides the necessary mechanical stability. The magnetic drive, developed using sophisticated FEA (finite element analysis), is designed for high efficiency and controlled driver movement. A black anodized voice coil former further improves heat dissipation and contributes to the speaker’s power handling capacity.

Separate, rear-damped hybrid silk dome tweeters are used for the high-frequency range. Their compact design makes it easy to integrate them, for example, into the mirror triangle, the A-pillar, or existing OEM tweeter locations. Together with the low-midrange drivers, the system covers a frequency range from 60 Hz to 20 kHz.

The included passive crossovers operate according to the second-order Linkwitz-Riley principle and separate the mid-bass and tweeter at 3.5 kHz with a slope of 12 dB per octave. The PNW-65CS2 is therefore suitable for use with high-powered car stereos as well as—in particular—for building a high-quality system in combination with a separate power amplifier or DSP power amplifier.
