More and more often, not only 16.5 cm bass speakers fit into the front doors, but also really large drivers with a diameter of 20 cm. As the simple rule of thumb "more cone area = more bass" also applies here, the new 8-inch ESX QUANTUM QXE series woofers can produce a lot of bass from the doors. They fit into standard 20 cm adapters for many car models, such as VW, Audi or even Tesla.
As conventional 20 cm woofers with ferrite magnets are too heavy and too deep for door mounting, ESX has designed a special 20 cm bass-midrange speaker with a neodymium drive, which is particularly suitable for door mounting with its shallow 57 mm installation depth and light 542 grams. In addition to the high-quality fiberglass cone, it has another special design feature: the neodymium magnet is not located at the back of the speaker basket as usual, but is mounted at the front. This saves installation depth and also optimizes the centre of gravity.
The fabric tweeter already familiar from the QXE6.2CV2 is also used in the new 20 cm set. A glance at the measured values reveals the potential of this extremely good 25 mm fabric neodymium tweeter: it shows a frequency response as if drawn with a ruler and plays with ease and confidence up to well over 24,000 Hz. Clever: the grille can be unscrewed together with the housing using a metric thread and significantly reduces the space required if necessary (e.g. when installing in a mirror triangle). An ABS housing is included in the scope of delivery for surface-mounted use. A 12 dB inline crossover optimized for this system is used for the separation.
