The VMX701DAB is a universal 2-DIN media receiver with a large 7-inch touchscreen and intuitive operation via a central rotary control and three function buttons. The device supports both Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™—either wirelessly or via a USB connection. A GPS receiver is available for navigation apps to ensure optimized location tracking.

For multimedia playback, the device supports audio, video, and photo files. The built-in DAB+ digital radio receiver comes with a DAB antenna. The device also features an FM/AM radio receiver with RDS functionality.

Bluetooth® is built in for phone calls and music streaming. The front panel features a USB-C port for media playback and charging (1.5 A), as well as a USB-A port for Apple CarPlay® or Android Auto™, which also provides 1.5 A of charging power.

The maximum output power is 4 × 80 watts. For connecting external amplifiers, the unit features RCA preamp outputs with a 4-volt output voltage for the front and rear channels, as well as two subwoofer outputs. In addition, the unit offers RCA AUX inputs, front and rear camera inputs, and support for analog steering wheel controls.

Additional features include a customizable startup logo, selectable RGB key lighting with animation effects, and an internal and external microphone.

Can I connect my steering wheel remote control to the VMX701DAB?

Yes, the ESX Vision VMX701DAB supports connection to a steering-wheel-mounted remote control. To do this, you will need a vehicle-specific adapter cable, which is available separately. Programming is carried out via the head unit’s settings menu.

Which file formats can the car radio play?

The 2-DIN car radio plays common audio formats such as MP3, WMA and FLAC. For videos, it supports AVI, MKV, MOV, FLV and WMV. For images, you can play JPEG, PNG and BMP files via the USB-A port.

How big is the display on the ESX VMX701DAB?

The mono receiver features a 7-inch touchscreen display with capacitive controls. The screen measures 17.8 cm diagonally and provides a clear display for navigation, media and settings.

What can I do with the two camera inputs?

The two RCA camera inputs allow you to connect a reversing camera and an additional front-facing camera. The system automatically switches to the reversing camera when you select reverse gear. The second camera can be activated manually.

Do Android Auto and Apple CarPlay work wirelessly?

The ESX VMX701DAB supports both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It can be connected via a USB cable for optimum stability and to charge your smartphone at the same time, or via Bluetooth.

What is the car radio’s music output?

The built-in amplifier delivers a maximum music output of 4 × 80 watts to the speakers. This output is sufficient for most vehicles. For even more power, you can connect additional power amplifiers via the RCA outputs.

Can I use the VMX701DAB as a sat-nav?

The 2-DIN unit itself does not have built-in sat-nav. However, you can use your smartphone’s sat-nav functions on the 7-inch display via Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. Google Maps or Apple Maps will then be displayed directly on the touchscreen.

How does DAB+ reception work on the VMX701DAB?

The digital radio receives DAB+ stations in excellent quality with no interference. A DAB aerial is included, so you can start receiving DAB+ straight away. The car radio shows station information and programme guides directly on the display.
