A small addition in the product name makes the big difference - the new MK2 version of the V EIGHT DSP is the logical further development of its already more than impressive predecessor. Confusingly similar from the outside, we have brought all our experience to bear and reconsidered and optimized many aspects of the interior. The result is an 8-channel amplifier with ten processed DSP channels that is second to none in many respects.

 

The plus in speed – thanks to ACO

Faster is better - the particularly powerful 32-bit ACO platform takes over all control tasks and ensures significantly more speed, especially in data communication with our DSP PC tool software, but also in the lightning-fast switching between the up to ten possible sound setups. But ACO offers much more - fantastic sound effects such as augmented bass processing, StageXpander or RealCenter are implemented as well as a channel-separated input EQ including input signal analyzer (ISA) for easy analysis and compensation of the input signals from OE radios, which already have a sound ex works -Setup include.

 

New signal converters for optimized sound quality

Instead of a combined codec, the new V EIGHT DSP MK2 now uses separate AD and DA converters of the latest generation from Asahi Kasei with a native resolution of 32 bits. This ensures maximum signal resolution in the entire signal path from input to output - and optimal sound quality is guaranteed.

 

Virtual channel processing – this is how signal routing works today

The adaptation to modern OE sound systems via an increasing number of signal inputs makes an increasingly complex signal routing in the amplifier unavoidable. Extremely sociable

More and more vehicles are factory-fitted with sound systems that include a multi-channel amplifier that cannot be replaced with another amplifier. Adaptation to such a configuration not only requires a large number of input channels, but also a particularly wide adjustment range for the input sensitivity. The V EIGHT DSP MK2 therefore offers eight high-level connections with a maximum input voltage of 4 V to 32 V in addition to the six cinch inputs. Pure Class GD amplifier technology

The Pure Class GD concept combines the advantages of Class G technology with the principle of a Class D amplifier. This results in an unusually high degree of efficiency, which once again surpasses conventional Class D amplifiers. The advantages of the Pure Class GD concept come into play at low and medium modulation levels, as the internal supply voltage of the power stages varies depending on the amplitude of the input signal. In addition, the entire analog signal path of this amplifier is completely symmetrical, which benefits both the distortion factor and the signal-to-noise ratio.

 

ACO – Advanced 32 Bit CoProcessor

The HELIX V EIGHT DSP MK2 amplifier uses a particularly powerful 32-bit CoProcessor of the latest generation for all internal and external control and communication tasks. In contrast to the previously used 8-bit processor, this results in significant speed advantages, not only when switching between different sound setups, but above all in data communication with our DSP PC tool software. Another major advantage is the CoProcessor's integrated, native bootloader.

This enables software upgrades of all components of the integrated DSP, for example to be able to adapt the microcontroller-controlled ADEP.3 circuit to changes in the diagnostic systems of factory radios in the future or to expand the device with additional interfaces.

In addition, thanks to the new flash memory, the ACO offers space for 10 sound setups instead of the usual two.

 

Intelligent high-level input ADEP.3

Modern, factory-installed car radios are becoming more and more intelligent when it comes to diagnosing the connected loudspeakers. The latest generation in particular is equipped with additional monitoring functions, so that error messages or even malfunctions can occur when an additional amplifier is connected. The new ADEP.3 circuit (Advanced Diagnostics Error Protection Generation 3) prevents these problems without unnecessarily loading the speaker outputs of the radio at high levels.

 

Power Save Modus

The Power Save mode is activated in the basic settings of the DSP PC-Tool software. It allows the power consumption of the V EIGHT DSP MK2 (and possibly additionally connected amplifiers) to be drastically reduced if there is no input signal for longer than 60 seconds. As soon as the "Power Save Mode" is active, the internal amplifier stages of the VEIGHT DSP MK2 and the Rem Out are switched off, thus significantly reducing the power consumption. The amplifier returns to normal operation within 2 seconds as soon as a music signal is present at its input. The switch-off delay can be varied or completely deactivated via the DSP PC-Tool software.

 

start-stop capability

The power pack in the HELIX V EIGHT DSP MK2 amplifier ensures the internal power supply even in the event of short-term dips down to 6 volts. This ensures that the HELIX V EIGHT DSP MK2 remains fully functional even when the engine is started.

DSP Features

RealCenter

The "RealCenter" function is an Audiotec Fischer proprietary algorithm that emphasizes the monaural information of the left and right front channels to create a unique center signal. In contrast to the usual method, in which only the channels are summed up, there is also a dynamic control of the center signal through the stereophonic information content of the left and right channel. This means that the center channel does not reproduce a signal if only the left channel or only the right channel provides an audio signal. With the usual algorithms, the center channel would only be 6 dB quieter in this case. Audiotec Fischer's "RealCenter" thus enables a unique, wide-ranging stage image - and that's ideal for driver and passenger alike! The disadvantages of a conventional center channel, such as an obtrusive, narrow spatial sound representation, are finally a thing of the past.

 

Augmented Bass Processing

Audiotec Fischer's proprietary "Augmented Bass Processing", consisting of the two revolutionary sound features: "Dynamic Bass Enhancement" and "SubXpander". These are specifically designed to dramatically improve bass response from subwoofers.

"Dynamic Bass Enhancement" combines in an ingenious way maximum deep bass foundation and high maximum sound pressure - regardless of the type of music you are listening to or the sound settings on the radio. Depending on the input signal, "Dynamic Bass Enhancement" boosts the lower frequency range on the one hand and varies the cut-off frequency of the subsonic filter on the other. The result is a significantly more powerful, deeper bass reproduction at low and medium volumes without running the risk of mechanically or electrically overloading the subwoofer at high volumes. It's simply fascinating what kind of bass performance is suddenly possible.

If you want the bass range to be a little deeper and "blacker", you can also activate the "SubXpander". Here, additional subharmonic tones are added to the fundamental tones in the frequency range between 50 and 100 Hz.

 

StageXpander

Depending on the arrangement of the loudspeakers in the vehicle, a more or less wide stereo stage can be created on the front seats. If a center loudspeaker is also installed, this sometimes additionally limits the spatial reproduction of the music. This is where Audiotec Fischer's new "StageXpander" comes into its own - a sound feature that seems to eliminate acoustic boundaries and thus enables a significantly broader stereo base without negatively affecting the precision in the localization of voices or instruments. The effect can be adjusted to personal taste in four stages.

 

ClarityXpander

Would you like more transparency and substance in the high-frequency reproduction? Audiotec Fischer now offers exactly the right tool for this with the "ClarityXpander".

Correctly dosed (and therefore selectable in three stages), it gives the overtones additional radiance - particularly useful if the original loudspeakers lack the necessary shine in the high-frequency range. The extra treble kick is not only available for the two front channels, but also separately adjustable for the center channel. And because a little too much in connection with musical material rich in overtones tires the ear, especially with the latter, an automatic, dynamic control of the additional overtone component can even be activated here.

Unfortunately, it is difficult to give a general answer, as all woofers and speakers are constructed differently and have different coils, plus the amplifier, which must be designed for the connection impedance. You can simply use our wiring assistant, enter the number of speakers, resistance and wiring variant and have it calculated. If the amplifier can handle the connection impedance, nothing stands in the way of the wiring.

Amplifiers which have a release up to e.g. 1 Ohm can also be connected with 2,3,4 and higher impedance.

If you prefer to listen to charts, rock, pop or e.g. techno, the tuning should be a little higher and is usually in the range of 40Hz and higher. The range of RnB or Ami HipHop usually plays in the 30 to 40Hz range.

In short, clipping is an "unclean signal". You can usually recognize clipping in woofers when there is an electrical smell, the woofer stinks and becomes hot. With loudspeakers, it can also be noticeable through unclean reproduction. The fun is over when the coil has unwound from the carrier. Many amplifiers now have a clipping LED integrated in the output stage or in the bass control; if the LED lights up, you should definitely turn down the volume. If the amplifier does not have an LED, the only way to position the gain correctly is to use an oscilloscope or other aids. However, this requires a certain amount of basic knowledge in order to set the amplifier correctly.

The processing time depends on the product and defect, usually a few days for amplifiers and 1 to 2 weeks for loudspeakers. If it is a material defect and the repair is not foreseeable, the item will be replaced.
